On 31 March 2021, Iceland submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the 51³Ô¹Ï Convention on the Law of the Sea, information on the limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured in respect of the western, southern and south-eastern parts of the Reykjanes Ridge.
It is noted that, on 29 April 2009, Iceland made a partial Submission which included the same region and on 10 March 2016, the Commission adopted the "Recommendations of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf in regard to the Submission made by Iceland in the Ægir Basin area and in the Western and Southern Parts of Reykjanes Ridge On 29 April 2009 of information on the proposed outer limits of its continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles."It is further noted that, pursuant to section V. paragraph 11 (3) of Annex III to the rules of procedures of the Commission, the Summary of the Recommendations has been made public.
In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, a communication is being circulated to all Member States of the 51³Ô¹Ï, as well as States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the partial revised Submission, including all charts and coordinates contained in that summary.
The consideration of the partial revised Submission made by Iceland will be included in the provisional agenda of the next session of the Commission scheduled to be held in New York from 6 July to 20 August 2021.
Upon completion of the consideration of the submission, the Commission shall make recommendations pursuant to article 76 of the Convention.
