First indicator
Specifies whether or not a display note will be generated.
0 note will be displayed
with system-generated terms and phrases (display constants) based on the second indicator value.
1 specifies that a system-generated note will not be displayed.
Second indicator
Specifies the relationship between the item described and the succeeding entry. It
generates a display constant for a note, when the 1st indicator value is 0.
0 displays as Continued by:
1 displays as Continued in part by:
2 displays as Supersedes:
3 displays as Supersedes in part by:
4 displays as Absorbed by:
5 displays as Absorbed in part by:
6 displays as Split into: … and: …
[when the 2nd indicator value of 6 is used, the
1st indicator value is 1 and an explanatory note is recorded in tag 580]
7 displays as Merged with: … to form …:
