First coordination meeting on international migration
New York
Overview
Over the past years, issues of international migration have gained prominence in the international agenda. Recognizing the need to review and coordinate the growing information on international migration among interested organizations, the Population Division of the 51³Ô¹Ï Secretariat held a Coordination Meeting on International Migration on 11-12 July 2002, at 51³Ô¹Ï Headquarters, in New York City.
The primary objectives of the meeting were three-fold: (a) to share and exchange information on data collection activities - existing and planned – in the area of international migration, and their use; (b) to identify the major gaps or areas of missing information; and (c) to facilitate the coordination of activities of the various offices within the 51³Ô¹Ï system and other relevant international and regional organizations as well as institutions concerned with international migration.
