Because achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 also means ensuring their sustainability beyond 2030, training in the use of long-run population, economic, and fiscal forecasts is an important component of capacity development as envisioned by Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;<br /> In this context, the Population Division of DESA and ECLAC&nbsp;organized the Latin American and Caribbean Workshop Assessing the Economic and Fiscal Consequences of Population Ageing, held at ECLAC&nbsp;in Santiago from 9 to 11 September 2019.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;<br /> While population ageing will be one of the most important forces shaping the outcome of social and economic policy in the coming decades in the Latin America and Caribbean region, it is not always explicitly included in policy discussions. Because its influence is difficult to discern in the short run, a myopic policy focus inevitably results in delays in addressing mounting challenges such as population ageing, climate change, non-communicable disease and environmental degradation.&nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;<br /> The Workshop trained participants from national statistical offices, ministries in the planning, economic and social sectors, and research institutions in the use medium- and long-run economic and fiscal forecasts to address the cost, equity, and sustainability of development policies and programmes.&nbsp;</p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/2019">2019</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/workshop">Workshop</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/capacity-development">Capacity Development</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-featured-categories field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Categories:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/categories/workshop">Workshop</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/development/desa/pd/categories/capacity-development">Capacity Development</a></div></div></div> Thu, 29 Oct 2020 18:42:00 +0000 DCULPEPP 3641 at /development/desa/pd Latin America training workshop on assessing the economic and fiscal consequences of the aging population /development/desa/pd/events/latin-america-training-workshop-assessing-economic-and-fiscal-consequences-aging-population <div class="field field-name-field-featured-image field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img class="large img-responsive" src="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/styles/large/public/undesa_pd_ecuador_ws_2019_photo.jpg?itok=zwBJHi1W" width="580" height="326" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-date field-type-date field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><span class="date-display-range"><span class="date-display-start">Monday, 25 November 2019 - 9:15am</span> to <span class="date-display-end">Wednesday, 27 November 2019 - 5:15pm</span></span></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-inline clearfix"><div class="field-label">tags:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/2019">2019</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/workshop">Workshop</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/tags/capacity-development">Capacity Development</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-featured-categories field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Categories:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/development/desa/pd/categories/workshop">Workshop</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/development/desa/pd/categories/capacity-development">Capacity Development</a></div></div></div> Wed, 28 Oct 2020 19:57:00 +0000 DCULPEPP 3632 at /development/desa/pd Measuring the SDG indicator on countries with well-managed migration policies /development/desa/pd/events/measuring-sdg-indicator-countries-well-managed-migration-policies-2 <div class="field field-name-field-date field-type-date field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><span class="date-display-single">Tuesday, 29 August 2017 - 9:00am</span></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><h3>Overview&nbsp;</h3> <p class="rtejustify">The 51Թ Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the Organization for International Migration (IOM) have been collaborating in the development of the methodology and measurement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicator 10.7.2 on well-managed migration policies, to inform the global evaluation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.</p> <p class="rtejustify">The goal of the workshop is to analyse and discuss with national representatives and experts about the methodology for measuring SDG target 10.7.2, Number of countries that have implemented well-managed migration policies.</p> <p class="rtejustify">&nbsp;</p> <h3 class="rtejustify">Documents</h3> <ul> <li class="rtejustify"> <p>Workshop flyer &nbsp;[<a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/undesa_pd_workshop_2017-chile_flyer.pdf">Spanish</a>]</p> </li> <li class="rtejustify"> <p>Organization of work&nbsp;
