The Workshop is one of the main components of the Development Account Training programme on the Demographic Impact of AIDS in Africa. About 20 trainees, most of whom are working currently in national statistical offices and or in the AIDS coordination bodies of African countries, will attend the Workshop. The objectives of this training activity are to give African trainees a good understanding of the broad demographic aspects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, including methodological and data quality issues, and to make them aware of the crucial importance of adopting effective ways to communicate the results of research on population and HIV/AIDS.</p> <h3>Documents</h3> <ul> <li> <p><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm-200309-objectives.pdf">Objectives</a></p> </li> <li> <p><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm-200309-organizationofwork.pdf">Organization of work</a></p> </li> <li> <p><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm-200309-listofparticipants.pdf">List of participants</a></p> </li> <li> <p><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm-200309-listofdocuments.pdf">List of documents</a></p> </li> <li> <p><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm-200309-meetingreport.pdf">Rapporteur's summary of Part I of the workshop</a></p> </li> </ul> <h3>Organization of work</h3> <table border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" style="width: 100%;"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="2" style="width: 20%;"><strong>Part I: Technical discussions</strong></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" style="width: 20%; background-color: gold;"> <p><strong>Monday, 8 September</strong></p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 20%; vertical-align: top; height: 65px;"> <p>9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.</p> </td> <td style="height: 65px;"> <p><strong>I. As mortality levels continue to decrease in most countries of the world, deaths become increasingly concentrated at older ages and it becomes more pressing to estimate mortality in adult ages with accuracy. In addition, as the AIDS epidemic continues to expand, accounting for its effect on adult mortality is essential. These are some of the issues discussed by the Expert Group Meeting, as reflected in this report.</p> <h3>Documents</h3> <ul> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/undesa_pd-egm-2006-list_of_participants.pdf">Participants list</a></li> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/undesa_pd-2006_egm-organization_of_work.pdf">Organization of work</a></li> <li><a href="/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/unpd-egm-200610-report.pdf">Report</a></li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3>Organization of work</h3> <table border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" style="width: 100%;"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="2" style="width: 15%; background-color: gold;"> <p><strong>Thursday, 26 October 2006</strong></p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width: 15%; vertical-align: top;"> <p><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><span style="line-height:107%"><span style="font-family:&quot;Calibri&quot;,sans-serif">13:30-17:30</span></span></span></p> </td> <td> <p><strong>Afternoon session</strong></p> <p><strong>I.
