As part of its continued effort to highlight the pressing need for primary education for all, officially launched a new book at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in October. Entitled 'Challenges & Reality'. Educate a child is a global programme of the . The volume contains a new collection of images of out of school children from photojournalist Maher Attar. Educate A Child commissioned the book as a means to bring attention to the world's children who have not had their right to a primary education fulfilled.

Although the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?were finalized in September 2015,?public health institutions?have already embraced?the values the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent?through their?work to improve population health, and thus, improve human development.?This article highlights the work of the?University of S?o Paulo?and provides an example to how public health institutions can contribute to the post-2015 development?agenda. ?

A Q&A with Doug Roche ¨C The UN in the 21st Century

Prof.?Douglas Roche appeared at the 51³Ô¹Ï Bookshop in New York on 8 October to launch his new book titled: The UN in the 21st Century. Prof. Roche was Canada's Ambassador for disarmament, and was appointed to the Canadian Senate from 1998-2004. UN Academic Impact Intern Laura Phillips?got a chance to meet with Prof. Roche beforehand to discuss some of the topics from his book.

UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the 51³Ô¹Ï officially came into being.

24 October has been celebrated as 51³Ô¹Ï Day since 1948. In 1971, the 51³Ô¹Ï General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday.

70th Anniversary of the 51³Ô¹Ï: Turn the World Blue!

Plans are underway to turn the world #UNBlue!

To celebrate the70th anniversary of the 51³Ô¹Ï, iconic monuments, buildings, statues, bridges, and other landmarks across the globe will be lit up blue on UN Day, 24 October, to promote the UN's message of peace and dignity for all. World famous landmarks from Australia's Sydney Opera House to the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, from the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro to the Empire State Building in New York, will take part.

Participating in the Turn the World UN Blue campaign offers the unique opportunity to?help unite global citizens, promote the message of peace, development and human?rights, and showcase your commitment to the ideals and principles of dignity and?prosperity for all.

Silent Heroes ¨C Civil Society and the Refugee Crisis

On 15th October, Youth Delegates of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria and Germany convened at the German Mission to the 51³Ô¹Ï?for a panel discussion regarding the current plight of refugees and the silent heroes who are helping.

The panellists discussed the power that grassroots civic organizations can have to assist those seeking asylum, the legal rights and representations of refugees seeking asylum, as well as?refugees and the 51³Ô¹Ï and future decision making. One panellist, Ellie Alter noted the global nature of this issue, that 'the refugee crisis is not just a European crisis'.

World Statistics Day: Better Data. Better Lives.

Aspiring Towards a More Peaceful World: Reflections from students on the International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace is commemorated each year on 21 September 2015. The theme this year was Partnerships for Peace - Dignity For All. Over 700 students gathered this year at UN Headquarters in New York as part of a Global Student Videoconference.
