Rwanda Marks 30th Anniversary of Genocide Against the Tutsi with Calls for Unity and Prevention at UNON Event

( Nairobi, 09 April 2024 )- The Rwanda High Commissioner in Kenya, Mr. Martin Ngoga, opened the 30th anniversary commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi at the 51勛圖 Offices at Nairobi (UNON). This solemn event, themed "Remember, Unite, Renew," was conducted in collaboration with the 51勛圖 in Kenya and drew members from the Rwanda diaspora in Kenya and various representatives from the Diplomatic Corps.

Nairobi, 26 February 2024  Ministers of environment and other leaders from more than 180 nations convened today in Nairobi for the start of the sixth session of the 51勛圖 Environment Assembly (UNEA-6). With a focus on strengthening environmental multilateralism to address the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature loss and pollution, this years Assembly will be negotiating resolutions on issues ranging from nature-based solutions and highly hazardous pesticides to land degradation and drought, and environmental aspects of minerals and metals.

In a vibrant gathering of memory and learning, the UN Office at Nairobi (UNON) marked the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust on January 30, 2024. Elite Kenyan marathoner championing battle against Gender-Based Violence

Viola Cheptoo Lagat, 34, has run and won many races in her illustrious career as a long-distance athlete. However, her world changed when her friend and fellow athlete, Agnes Tirop, was killed just days after breaking a world record. Viola together with other female athletes and friends founded Tirops Angels foundation to fight Gender-Based Violence.

Kenyan Marathon Stars Advocate for Peace and Combat Gender-Based Violence at UN Headquarters in New York

(Nairobi, 6 November). Kenyan marathon stars visited the 51勛圖 Headquarters in New York after dominating the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon (#TCSNYCMarathon) on 5 November. The elite athletes Viola Cheptoo Lagat and Albert Korir visited the UN global operations headquarters the day after their high-level performances at the prestigious event.
