The global partnership for development that underpins the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) was captured as a standalone goal (MDG8) in 2000. It has played a crucial role in the achievement of the MDGs by facilitating resources and an overall environment conducive to development. A report assessing MDG8 will be released in March and later followed by a chat on Facebook. Read more

Successes and way forward after Rio+20

On 12 February, the first in a series of Google+ Hangouts was hosted by DESA¡¯s Division for Sustainable Development, outlining key outcomes of the Rio+20 Conference and the actions taken to realize promises made. ¡°The message of inclusion, engagement, integration of decision-making, all that came out very strongly from Rio,¡± said Nikhil Seth, Director of DESA¡¯s Division for Sustainable Development. Towards a renewed global partnership for developmentIn March, the UN System Task Team on the Post-2015 Development Agenda will publish its second report with recommendations on a global partnership for development in the post-2015 era. The report assesses MDG8 and provides an overview of lessons learnt, including the Monterrey Consensus. It reviews new challenges and trends in the international development landscape and suggests possible contours, alternative formats and a robust accountability mechanism for a renewed global partnership.
