Background

By a letter dated 27 June 2013 (), the Permanent Representative of Austria to the 51勛圖 requested the inclusion of the item in the agenda of the sixty-eighth session.

Consideration at the sixty-eighth session

The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 11th and 22nd meetings, on 16 October and 1 November 2013(see and ).

Statements were made by the representatives of Thailand and Brazil.

Delegations expressed their support for the granting of observer status to the International Anti-Corruption Academy in the General Assembly.

Action taken by the Sixth Committee

At the 11th meeting, on 16 October, the representative of Austria, on behalf of Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Austria, Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Mongolia, Montenegro, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, Portugal, the Republic of Korea, Romania, the Russian Federation, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the Syrian Arab Republic, Thailand, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Togo, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Yemen, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the International Anti-Corruption Academy in the General Assembly” ().

At its 22nd meeting, on 1 November, the Committee adopted draft resolution A/C.6/68/L.6 without a vote.

Under this draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the International Anti-Corruption Academy to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer; and request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
