Media in action

More than 3,000 journalists from around the world are expected to cover UNGA 78. Television tents are set up near the Rose Garden of the UN headquarters complex during the week of the General Assemblys annual general debate and associated high-level meetings.

A gift from All-America Rose Sections, Inc., the garden has over 1,500 rose bushes, each carefully named for places and people from around the world. Expert UN gardeners ensure they bloom year-round.

The garden is open to the public and is located off the Visitors Concourse, behind the GA Building.

On the sidelines of the Summit at the SDG Media Zone, Carl Skau of the World Food Programme (right) spoke to the Director of the UN's News and Media Division, Ian Phillips, about the escalating needs faced by the world's hungry: "We are in a situation where our needs are going up and funding are going down and the forecast for '24 looks even more dire. I recently visited Syria. It is heartbreaking meeting women, who told frankly it was better during the war, the bombs were dropping on them, but they had food."
