Description
Progress towards gender equality, as outlined in the and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, remains slow and uneven. Despite gains in some areas, pervasive challenges persist, including stagnant labour force participation gaps, disproportionate unpaid care burdens on women, and pervasive gender-based violence. Intersectional discrimination exacerbates inequalities, while inadequate financing, entrenched social norms, and limited women's leadership further hinder progress. Insufficient data and accountability mechanisms compound the issue.
The project will strengthen the capacity of Member States to monitor progress and accelerate implementation of the BPfA and the 2030 Agenda by: (1) supporting Member States to conduct national-level reviews of progress in consultation with civil society and other stakeholders; (2) supporting regional forums to enable sharing of good practices and exchanges between Member States, civil society and other stakeholders; and (3) producing a comprehensive, high-quality Secretary-General¡¯s report that takes stock of progress, gaps and good practices at global, regional and national level. The report will inform deliberations at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, as well as a series of high-level events throughout 2025 and assist governments to strengthen their efforts towards achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
