Jeremy Akhavi
Eighteen-year-old Jeremy from London was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in February 2017. Hodgkin's lymphoma is an uncommon kind of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, a network of vessels and glands spread throughout the body. The lymphatic system forms part of the immune system and the cancer develops specifically in the lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. Despite this, Jeremy never let his condition or treatment keep him down 每 he is a straight-A student, plays rugby for the U16 and U18 teams and is a colour sergeant in the Combined Cadet Force. He has also volunteered as a Teaching Assistant, helped young people with autism play rugby and initiated the set-up of Mill Hill Minds 每 a mental health focus group. Jeremy is very interested in society and will initiate conversations with people of varying ages and from different walks of life. He has a real passion for public speaking and has debated, led full school assemblies and, as Head Boy, made a speech at a school service, while undergoing chemotherapy.?
