From the GEF: GEF Council approves $700M+ for vast environmental needs

20 June 2024: "Focusing on climate change adaption, Council members approved a record $203 million from the LDCF for initiatives across 20 Least Developed Countries, including joint financing with the GEF Trust Fund for the Great Green Wall. The LDCF support will propel efforts to enhance resilience to flooding and drought in Laos and Cambodia; to develop climate-resilient transport infrastructure in Sao Tome and Principe; to support youth- and women-led green enterprises in Chad; to improve food security in Sierra Leone; and to address other urgent needs."

Climate Adaptation Regional Programming and Strategy Workshops for LDCs (GEF)

The focus of this workshop series is on bringing together experts who are directly involved in adaptation project planning, decision making, and implementing adaptation action. Others invited include the GEF’s Council members and alternate Council members from the region, as well as representatives from GEF agencies, the GEF’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel, the Green Climate Fund, and the LDC Group within the UNFCCC.

From the GEF: LDCF and SCCF provide new targeted support for vulnerable states

The Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) will deploy $63 million in urgent funding for countries on the frontlines of climate change following a meeting of the Global Environment Facility-managed funds in Brazil.

In its 34th meeting, the LDCF/SCCF Council approved six projects to boost climate resilience in countries including Bhutan, Cabo Verde, Comoros, Djibouti, and Zambia, in line with the funds’ strategy to target the unique adaptation needs of Least Developed Countries and vulnerable island nations.
