The Division for the Advancement of Women convened a judicial
colloquium to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the
Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the 10th anniversary of the
Convention on the Rights of the Child. Participants included nearly 100 senior judges and magistrates from 65 countries who have drawn on international human rights treaty law in decision-making, and who presented cases in working group sessions. These cases dealt with issues within the following three major themes: nationality, marriage and family relations; violence against women; and work and work-related rights. The use of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and/or the Convention on the Rights of the Child were particularly highlighted. |
