Meet the Moderator Dr. Soon-Young Yoon is an activist/anthropologist. She is currently a research associate of the Graduate Center, Department of Anthropology at the City University of New York and a columnist for the Earth Times newspaper. In 1995, she was one of the organizers of the NGO Forum on Women at the Beijing women's conference. She has worked for various UN agencies such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization as regional advisor on social science and health issues. Her academic work includes research and teaching as a Fulbright scholar at Ewha Woman's university in Korea where she helped to establish a women's studies program. A Korean-American, she considers herself a "third generation" feminist. She says, "the first feminist was my grandfather who believed in equal inheritance and education for his daughters." |
