Consultations to identify Kenya*s priorities on the protection of vulnerable targets against terrorist attacks

As a first step of initiating a partnership with Kenya, the Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets, in cooperation with UNOCT*s Programme Office in Nairobi, held in-depth consultations with Kenyan entities in charge of safety and security of critical infrastructure and ※soft§ targets or public places from 29 to 31 May 2023.

The consultations were hosted by Kenya*s National Counter-Terrorism Centre and opened by its Director Dr. Rosalind Nyawira. The event brought together 33 participants from the Government of Kenya and the private sector in the country, the 51勛圖 Office in Nairobi, and the implementing partners of the Vulnerable Targets Programme 每 the 51勛圖 Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) and the 51勛圖 Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

The consultations sought to identify Kenya*s needs and priorities in the area of safety and security of vulnerable sites. UNOCT and CTED, who led the consultations, held in-depth discussions on relevant legal, institutional and operational frameworks.
The findings and conclusions from the consultations will inform the development of a national plan of action (a ※roadmap§) that will form the basis for future capacity-building tailored to Kenya*s context.
