Peace Boat Ecoship - Sailing for the SDGs and Climate Action
Event date:
03 Nov 2021 - 01:15 to 01:45
Location:
Glasgow, UK
Description
Peace Boat organizes global educational voyages for peace and sustainability in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sailing with the SDGs logo on the hull of our ship. Through our global voyages and advocacy, Peace Boat works with a diverse range of partners on the frontline of the climate crisis including youth and communities from Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Peace Boat¡¯s Ecoship Project is a transformational programme to construct the planet¡¯s most environmentally sustainable passenger ship and a transition model for decarbonizing the maritime sector. As well as a model for sustainable shipping, the Ecoship will be the platform for global educational voyages carrying 6,000 people per year; host exhibitions on green technology in up to 100 ports per year; and serve as a floating sustainability laboratory contributing to research on the ocean, climate and green marine technology. The ship will create awareness and encourage active engagement with the challenges embodied in the SDGs. This event reflected a wide-ranging collaboration with speakers including civil society, youth and NGO leaders, covering diverse topics from clean transport and the energy transition, ocean conservation, education for the SDGs to youth empowerment and voices from SIDS.
