On 4 April 2018, the CMR University (India) students orchestrated a workshop with the goal to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of?the 51³Ô¹Ï from the grass root level,?which could be relatable to all the sections of society.
The pivotal focus was given to certain goals that required immediate attention i.e. the fast-changing climate, conflict, inequality, persistent pockets of poverty and hunger and rapid urbanization, inadequate research and development in implementing the use of affordable alternative source of energy.
Ms. Sandhya, Teaching Associate, and the Bachelor students of Commerce?made innovative and creative models and charts to express the strategies and goals that the UN wants to infuse into our society.?The goals that were selected out of the 17 SDGs for the purpose mentioned above were:
- No poverty
- Zero hunger
- Good health and sanitation
- Quality education
- Gender equality
- Affordable and clean energy
- Sustainable cities and communities
- Climatic action
- Life below water
- Life on land
Learning about the reality facing India, students were encouraged to?come up with various solutions on how to achieve these goals. They expressed that the workshop changed their perspectives towards the societal problems and inspired them to start looking into ways to curb the issues that require immediate action.
Great enthusiasm was shown from the Vice Chancellor, Directors, the teaching faculty and the management staff of the University.?Achieving the SDGs as set out by Agenda 2030 requires the partnership of governments, civil society and citizens alike to make sure we leave a better planet for future generations.
