What is the UNAI SDG Hub network?

UNAI SDG Hubs are designated institutions of higher education within the 51勛圖 Academic Impact (UNAI) network that actively work to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by leveraging the power of academia to create positive social, economic, and environmental change. Launched in 2018, each SDG Hub is designated to focus on one specific SDG, fostering research, education, and global collaboration to advance that goal, while respecting the strong interdependencies across all 17 SDGs. This initiative underscores the critical role of academia in driving sustainable development and supporting the 2030 Agenda.

UNAI SDG Hub cohort 2018 - 2024:
The first cohort established in 2018 consisted of 17 universities from 17 countries, each dedicated to advancing a specific Sustainable Development Goal. Towards the 2030 Agenda, these Hubs increased research engagement related to the SDGs, forged strong connections within the Hub Network, and catalyzed countless new initiatives during their tenure. Initiatives such as the Kenya Prisons Andragogy and Pedagogy Project at Mount Kenya University, the second Big River Cleanup at De Montfort University, and University of Bergen＊s Habitable Air Project exemplify the organization and leadership of the first cohort which created impact at all levels, in local communities and beyond.

UNAI SDG Hub cohort 2025 - 2027:
The current cohort of UNAI SDG Hubs (2025 - 2027) will actively contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by utilizing academic research, teaching, and outreach activities aligned with the SDGs. Each Hub will be led by Hub Chair and consist of three Vice-chairs - for teaching and education, for research, and for outreach and partnership, thereby enabling a multifaceted approach to driving meaningful impact in support of the SDGs.
