2007 Regional Consultations on ECOSOC Annual Ministerial Review

A Regional Forum on the theme "Key Challenges of Financing Poverty and Hunger Eradication in Latin America and the Caribbean" was held on 17 -18 May, in Brasilia, Brazil. Hosted by the Government of Brazil and organized in cooperation with the Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the meeting was part of the preparatory process that provided input to the Annual Ministerial Review (AMR) held on 3-4 July in Geneva at the high-level segment of ECOSOC.

Participants examined emerging trends and challenges in the area of financing for eradication of poverty and hunger, and discussed traditional and innovative sources of financing to eliminate these scourges. The event also featured presentations by governments, civil society and the private sector of best practices for fighting poverty, as well as of new, concrete initiatives in poverty and hunger eradication.
