Public Service Activity — NYC
Madiba Prep Middle School, NYC, 20 July —
Volunteering for #MandelaDay: On 20 July, the annual volunteer event in honour of Nelson Mandela took place at Madiba Prep Middle School of Social Justice and Innovation in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Approximately 80 UN staff members, diplomatic community volunteers, and partners from the Mayor's Office joined forces to make a difference. Their mission was to beautify the school by painting walls, assembling new furniture, revamping the school library, and assisting the New York Common Pantry to assemble essential food supplies and packing food bags for those in need.
Organizers:
The volunteer activity was a collaboration co-organized by the NYC Mayor's Office for International Affairs, the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly, the Permanent Mission of South Africa to the UN, and the UN Department for Global Communications.
