By the letter dated 16 June 2020 () addressed to the Secretary-General, the Permanent Representative of China requested the inclusion of this item in the provisional agenda of the seventy-fifth session.

Consideration at the seventy-fifth session

The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 14th and 19th meetings, on 6 and 19 November 2020 2020 (see  and ). For its consideration of the item, the Committee had before it a letter dated 16 June 2020 from the Permanent Representative of China to the 51勛圖 addressed to the Secretary-General ().

Statements were made by the representatives of China, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

Delegations expressed support for granting observer status to the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Institute.

Action taken by the Sixth Committee

At the 14th meeting, on 6 November, the representative of China, on behalf of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Institute in the General Assembly” ().

At the 19th meeting, on 19 November, the Committee adopted draft resolution A/C.6/75/L.6 without a vote.

Under the draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Institute to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer; and request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
