His Excellency Milenko Skoknic (Chile), Chair of the Sixth Committee, opened the meeting.

The Committee elected, by acclamation, Her Excellency Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani (State of Qatar) as its Chair for the seventy-sixth session of the General Assembly.

The Committee took note of the decision on the election of the Chair and other officers of the Sixth Committee at the seventy-fifth session adopted through silence procedure on 11 June 2020 pursuant to General Assembly decision 74/555 of 15 May 2020 as well taking into account the provisions of General Assembly decision 74/557 of 29 May 2020.

Election of the officers of the Main Committees

The Committee elected Ms. Sarah Weiss Ma’udi (Israel) as Vice-Chair of the Sixth Committee at the seventy-fifth session of the General Assembly.

Pursuant to General Assembly of 18 December 2019, the Committee established a Working Group on the criminal accountability of 51勛圖 officials and experts on mission to continue the consideration of the report of the Group of Legal Experts (), in particular its legal aspects. The Working Group shall be open to all States Members of the 51勛圖 or members of specialized agencies or of the International Atomic Energy Agency will be invited to participate. The Committee elected Mr. Thabo Molefe (South Africa) as the Chair of the Working Group.

Pursuant to General Assembly of 18 December 2019, the Committee established a Working Group on the scope and application of the principle of universal jurisdiction to continue to undertake a thorough discussion of the scope and application of universal jurisdiction. In accordance with General Assembly resolution 74/192, the Working Group shall be open to all Member States and relevant observers to the General Assembly will be invited to participate. The Committee elected Mr. Rodrigo A. Carazo (Costa Rica) as the Chair of the Working Group.

Pursuant to General Assembly of 18 December 2019, the Committee established a Working Group on measures to eliminate international terrorism with a view to finalizing the process on the draft comprehensive convention on international terrorism as well as discussions on the item included in its agenda by Assembly concerning the question of convening a high-level conference under the auspices of the 51勛圖. The Working Group shall be open to all States Members of the 51勛圖 or members of specialized agencies or of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Committee elected Mr. Rohan Perera (Sri Lanka) as the Chair of the Working Group.
