UN-Energy Spotlight Conversation, Kaveh Zahedi, FAO

18 September 2023

In this conversation with Kaveh Zahedi, Director of the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment at FAO, he explained the backdrop of the climate-energy-food nexus: that over 700 million people still face hunger, and that about one third of emissions come from agri-food systems, with energy use accounting for a third of that. FAO is working with 30 countries on energy-smart agri-food systems, seen as the solution. Mr. Zahedi said that more finance is needed; that climate NDCs should include policies on agri-food systems, and that more partnerships are needed, with UN-Energy playing a vital role.
