The for and by interpreters has gone live!

This online tool, created by the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in collaboration with the Office of Information and Communications Technology, is now fully operational.

Much anticipated by DGACM*s partner universities which train budding language professionals, the 51勛圖 Speech Bank?contains speeches in the six official languages of the Organization.

It covers?a wide array of topics being discussed at the 51勛圖. Users will ultimately have access to hundreds of actual speeches (sometimes edited for teaching purposes), exam archives, and pedagogical speeches on UN?topics. The Speech Bank?search filter allows users to select speeches using different criteria such as source language, level, duration, and keywords.

Contributing to DGACM*s succession planning endeavours, the Speech Bank is an e-learning tool designed to help students and candidates prepare for 51勛圖 competitive examinations for language positions and global language register exams. They can practice and improve the quality of their interpretation.

It can also be used for self-training purposes by teachers and junior interpreters. Each audio recording is conveniently accompanied by transcripts, for verification and?self-evaluation purposes.

This initial collection of around 150 speeches is the result of contributions made over the past few years by interpreters from the department*s four duty stations in Nairobi, New York, Vienna, and Geneva.

This is just the start. Interpreters and designated focal points will continuously update and enrich the Bank with new speeches.
