Description
LLDCs encounter significant hurdles due to their geographical disadvantage of being landlocked, which leads to elevated transport and trade transaction costs. These costs inhibit their integration into the global economy and impede overall development efforts. However, there is no readily available data for transport and trade costs at national and regional levels that can be used to develop effective policies to overcome challenges of landlockedness.

The project aims to strengthen LLDCs* transport and trade capacity and connectivity towards the SDGs. It will develop a methodology to measure transport and trade costs and will train the LLDCs on how to estimate transport and trade costs and identify the binding constraints to their export competitiveness. The project will also build capacity of LLDCs on how to reduce the transport and trade costs through capacity building on development of bankable infrastructure projects and on enhanced use of digital solutions to improve transport and trade facilitation.
