Validation
Now that you have finished your website and are ready to publish it on , we recommend you do a self-evaluation of the site while still in development to ensure it satisfies all of the accessibility principles.
Several free tools are available to check web accessibility. For instance, you can:
- install ‘Wave,’ the web accessibility browser extension to self-test web pages;
- use a browser extension like ‘Web Developer‘ that lets you show a web page without images, etc.;
- turn on Mac ‘VoiceOver’ for a screen reading of your site.
As full testing cannot be conducted using only automated tools, a manual review is therefore indispensable (you may want to use the ).
A final word: launching a website that is accessible to ALL users is only the starting point. When updating your site subsequently, keep a close watch on the accessibility principles detailed in these guidelines.
Keep in mind that ensuring web accessibility is a process, not a project!
