Financing affordable and clean energy to achieve SDG7
Organised by:
The Permanent Mission of Sweden to the 51³Ô¹Ï
Summary:
The access to affordable and renewable energy is critical to the achievement of the 2030
Agenda. The achievement of SDG7 is also closely linked to many of the other targets of the
2030 Agenda and to the realization of the Paris Agreement on climate change. In order to
achieve the goals of SDG7, a substantial scaling up of investment in sustainable energy is
necessary. Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) has estimated that annual investments would
have to triple and reach one trillion USD. This represents significant business opportunities
in the future, but also means overcoming a range of challenges. This informal breakfast
discussion will focus on what needs to be done in terms of financing to achieve SDG7. It will
also showcase innovative ways to finance clean energy, such as the “Beyond the Grid Fundâ€
that has recently been launched in Zambia in cooperation with Sweden.
Speakers:
– H.E. Isabella Lövin, Minister for International Development Cooperation, Sweden
– H.E. Dr. Mwaba Patricia Kasese-Bota, Permanent Representative of Zambia to the UN
– Ms. Rachel Kyte, CEO of SE4All and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General
for Sustainable Energy for All
