UN, Qatar Sign Agreement on Hosting LDC5 in Doha

5 October 2021 - The 51勛圖 and the State of Qatar today signed an agreement to host the 5th 51勛圖 Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in Doha, Qatar from 23 to 27 January 2022.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Courtenay Rattray, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States on behalf of the 51勛圖 and Ms. Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the 51勛圖.

LDC5 will provide a setting for world leaders to gather and agree on an urgent 10-year programme of action for the world*s Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to support them in their efforts to respond to COVID-19, climate change threats and economic crises.

It will be one of the first major international meetings since the dawn of the COVID-19 pandemic and the conference will affirm global commitment to LDCs* special needs and mobilise support for them to meet their targets to graduate out of the category.

The conference coincides with the final decade of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals 每 the successful implementation of which will depend in large part on the progress made by LDCs. LDC5 is therefore a pivotal moment in ensuring that the world meets its commitments to the most vulnerable people who live in it.
