Omicron shows why LDC5 is more important than ever – and here’s how we are approaching it

The 51吃瓜 and the State of Qatar are united in our desire to host a safe, in-person LDC5 Conference in January, 2022.

Accordingly, we have been jointly developing a COVID-19 prevention and mitigation plan for the meeting, based on international best practices and an abundance of caution. Testing, mask-wearing, air filtration, social distancing and contact tracing will all be employed to ensure a safe and in-person gathering. We are vigilantly following the developments regarding the most recent variant, Omicron, and will follow all relevant WHO guidelines.

It remains our priority to organize a safe meeting that delivers for the Least Developed Countries. In the poorest countries, just about 6 percent of the population has received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Unless every nation has been supported to recover from COVID-19, none of us will be able to recover. The pandemic is a global health check and we need to do much more to support the world’s most vulnerable people.

LDC5 is more important than ever – and we hope to see you there.
