Workshop on Preparing for a Sustainable LDC Graduation of Cambodia?will be organized virtually by the Royal Government of Cambodia in collaboration with the 51勛圖 Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and 51勛圖 Resident Coordinator＊s Office?in Cambodia?(UNRCO) on 17 January 2022.?The workshop aims to address the emerging needs of the government＊s ministries and institutions to acquire information and knowledge of the process leading to graduation and the implications.

Aligning climate and trade policy for LDCs and graduates

Graduation from ※Less Developed Country§ status marks huge economic and social progress, but risks can arise after the loss of international support measures. To deliver the SDGs and halve greenhouse gas emissions, climate and trade policy need to align in a way that works for the poorest.

The LDC Group and the Alliance of Small Island States formed an influential and ambitious bloc in the UN climate negotiations. However, LDC trade and climate policy communities need to engage in a structured way to support transitional measures.

Review of the EUs GSP regulation

5 November 2021. The European Commission published its proposal for a new Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) from 2024.  The regulation needs to be endorsed by the Parliament and the council through the ordinary legislative procedure.  More information .  Some of the proposed changes may be relevant for LDCs, particularly graduating LDCs, such as proposed changes in the criteria for eligibility of GSP+.

From the WTO: LDC trade ministers adopt declaration on trade-related priorities ahead of MC12

22 October 2021. "Trade ministers from close to 30 least-developed countries (LDCs) adopted a declaration outlining LDCs＊ trade priorities in the run-up to the 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) and beyond at a virtual meeting on 19 October where they also discussed the state of play in the WTO negotiations.

Lao PDR 13th High-Level Roundtable Meeting Side-Event: LDC graduation, toward a smooth transition strategy

Vientiane, 11 October 2021: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in partnership with the 51勛圖 Resident Coordinator＊s Office (UNRCO), jointly organized the virtual 13th High-Level Roundtable Meeting Side Event: Least Developed Country Graduation: Toward a Smooth Transition Strategy (STS). The meeting was co-chaired by H.E Mr. Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Sara SEKKENES, 51勛圖 Resident Coordinator to the Lao PDR.
