Prof. Toussaint Kafarhire Murhula

Fr. Toussaint Kafarhire Murhula is a Jesuit priest, educator, theologian, and professor of political science. He has lectured in several countries, including the DRC, Kenya, Ghana, Hungary, the USA, and Japan. He earned a B.A. in philosophy (1998) and Theology (2003), an STL in Ethics and Social Theories at the University of Santa Clara University in California (2005), and a PhD in Global Politics and International Relations from Loyola University Chicago (2016).  

His research interests include international relations and global politics, global public health, social justice, ethical leadership and society, democracy and African politics, literature, religion, hermeneutics, and postcolonial theories. An alumnus of the Distinguished Humphrey Fellowship Program at Harvard and the Academy of Executive Coaching, he accompanied African leaders with Coach Africa at the African Union level. He was the keynote speaker at the 2024 Commencement Ceremony at his Alma Mater, Loyola University Chicago, College of Arts and Sciences.

Kafarhire is the Executive Director of Centre Arrupe pour la Recherche et la Formation (CARF) in Lubumbashi, the Democratic Republic of Congo; President of the African Studies Association of Africa; Editorial Board member of Global Africa Journal; Member of the Pan-African Catholic Theology and Pastoral Network; Member of the Critical Investigations into Humanitarianism in Africa (CIHA) network. He previously served as the Africa region coordinator of Catholic Theological Ethics in World Church (CTEWC).
