Summary

Representatives from non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC, representatives from relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector are invited to register to attend and participate in the multi-stakeholder dialogue. Attendees will discuss the main findings and recommendations contained in the report of the Secretary-General on the review of the implementation of commitments made towards Africa¡¯s development, pursuant to 51³Ô¹Ï General Assembly resolutions and

The multi-stakeholder dialogue will be held in person on 21 July 2023 from 10:00 ¨C 13:00 EDT in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, New York. The meeting will be broadcast live on with interpretation in all official languages.

It will consist of an opening segment, a panel discussion, an interactive session, and a closing segment. The panel discussion will be composed of key stakeholders involved in Africa. It will be followed immediately by statements from 51³Ô¹Ï Member States and interventions from other relevant stakeholders, including representatives of academia, think tanks, civil society, and youth organizations.

There will be no pre-established list of speakers. Those wishing to take the floor will be invited to do so by pressing the microphone button in the room.

Objectives

  • To foster a dialogue around the progress made in the implementation of commitments made toward Africa¡¯s development in the areas of financing for development and energy access.
  • To identify opportunities and policy implications of the interlocking global crises on the continent's development, and their impact on the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
  • To promote a comprehensive and open exchange on reaffirming the pertinence of the UNMM as a mechanism for tracking and monitoring the implementation of commitments towards Africa¡¯s development and call attention to the need for full and timely implementation of development commitments towards Africa by the UN Member States.
