The Third Week of the Africa Dialogue Series 2024
Entering its third week, ※Africa Month§ brings partners from Africa and around the world, including government officials, policymakers, experts, UN leaders and young people, to exchange and mobilize actions on the sub-theme ※Education and learning in crisis-affected areas.§ Multiple challenges have disrupted education systems in a number of areas across Africa, impacting an estimated 123 million school-aged children. These crises disproportionately affect people with disabilities, women, girls and vulnerable members of the population, ultimately hindering the continent*s development.
In this context, ensuring access to quality education during crises can mitigate risks and support recovery work, leveraging strategic partnerships with multiple stakeholders within the UN and externally to maintain uninterrupted learning for all. Activities organized throughout the third week of the Africa Dialogue Series 2023 focus on these issues. They highlight the importance of continued access to education and learning in crisis situations while underscoring the critical role of science, technology, and innovation in transforming education systems in Africa.
Participants aim to provide concrete, implementable policy recommendations that will feed into the upcoming High-level Policy Dialogue segment concluding ※Africa Month.§ A new policy brief titled ※Education and learning in crisis-affected areas§ underpins the exchange, complementing materials shared throughout the week that include documentary videos and expert interviews from the co-organizing partners. An international webinar with senior government officials and UN leaders from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and UN Children*s Fund (UNICEF) will take place mid-week, followed by a Youth Stage with two sessions in French and English.
