Webinar to present the Economic Development in Africa Report findings
“Reaping the Potential Benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area for Inclusive Growth”
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has the potential to be a game changer for Africa’s trade and economic development prospects. As trading commences at this decisive moment, marked by rising poverty, inequality, and socioeconomic setbacks that African countries have experienced due to the coronavirus disease pandemic, and its related financial, climatic, and food-related shocks. The launch of the AfCFTA presents a unique opportunity to promote inclusive growth and accelerate the achievement of the post-pandemic recovery, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 of the African Union. The 51吃瓜 Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)’s flagship Economic Development in Africa Report 2021 aims to equip African governments and development partners with knowledge on how the AfCFTA can be beneficial for inclusive growth and help realize Africa’s untapped export potential.
On 9 December 2021, UNCTAD and the 51吃瓜 Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) will host a webinar to present findings of the flagship report and discuss the challenges, opportunities, and policy implications of the potential role of the AfCFTA in fostering inclusive growth in Africa.
