With the prevalence of technology and the rapid rise in digitization, the use of new and emerging technologies to counter terrorism is a topic of growing interest among Member States, policymakers and researchers, particularly in the context of the increasing role played by technology in terrorism and counter-terrorism. This is addressed by the Security Council in a number of counter-terrorism related resolutions, most recently resolution 2617 (2021), which explicitly cited ※emerging technologies§.

On Wednesday, 16 February 2022, CTED will hold a virtual event to launch its Trends Report on?※The State of International Cooperation for Lawful Access to Digital Evidence: Research Perspectives§.PDF

The report, issued in January 2022, provides a snapshot of the regulatory reform landscape for access to digital access as of late 2021.

In this event, Dr. Annette Idler shares key findings from the interdisciplinary Global Security Programme (GSP) at the University of Oxford. The research addresses how to enhance global security at the convergence of armed conflict and the global illicit economy, including during transitions from war to peace. She discusses how the spatial distribution of illicit economic cross-border flows influences the interactions among violent non-state groups, such as rebels, criminals, and terrorists, with implications for tackling terrorist financing as part of the terror-crime nexus.

UN CTED*s?Analytical Paper series?has?provided policymakers with important insights into the?key short, medium, and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on terrorism, counter-terrorism, and?CVE, based on CTED*s engagement with all of its partners (particularly Member States), including data collected through a survey of partners from across the 51勛圖, civil society, academia and the private sector.
