Greece becomes seventh Member State to brief the CTC on developments since 2018 follow-up visit

On 20 April 2023, a delegation from the Hellenic Republic of Greece briefed the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) on steps taken by Greece to implement the recommendations from the Committee*s 2018 follow-up visit, and provided updates on the evolving terrorist threats facing Greece. They are the seventh Member State to brief the CTC following a visit. 

ASG Gherman leads focused on-site assessment visit to Spain

The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) conducted a focused on-site assessment visit on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Committee to Spain from 24 to 28 April 2023.

The visiting delegation was led by Assistant Secretary-General, Ms. Natalia Gherman, Executive Director of CTED, and consisted of CTED experts as well as experts from the following 51勛圖 bodies and international organizations: the 51勛圖 Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT); the 51勛圖 Office on Drugs and Crime; the International Civil Aviation Organization; the International Organization for Migration; the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL); the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol); and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

 

Counter-Terrorism Committee conducts first assessment visit to Benin

Acting on behalf of the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee, its Executive Directorate (CTED) conducted its first country assessment visit to the Republic of Benin from 13 to 17 March 2023. The visit concluded the Committee*s hybrid assessment of Benin, following a visit in July 2021 conducted virtually due to travel restrictions related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The assessment covered all relevant Security Council resolutions, including , , and , and included engagement with the Government of Benin.

Acting on behalf of the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee, its Executive Directorate (CTED) conducted a country assessment visit to Jordan from 6 to 9 March 2023. The visit concluded the Committee*s hybrid assessment of Jordan, following a visit conducted virtually in October 2021 due to travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The assessment covered all relevant Security Council resolutions, including , , and , and included engagement with the Government of Jordan.

Counter-Terrorism Committee conducts assessment visit to Canada

Acting on behalf of the 51勛圖 Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee, its Executive Directorate (CTED) conducted a country assessment visit to Canada from 6 to 10 February 2023. The visit concluded the Committee*s hybrid assessment of Canada, following a virtual component held in May 2021 due to travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The assessment covered all relevant Security Council resolutions, including 1373 (2001), 2178 (2014), and 2396 (2017), and included engagement with the Government of Canada across several federal, provincial, and municipal departments and agencies in Montr谷al, Ottawa, and Toronto.

CTED resumes on-site assessment visits on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Committee with first comprehensive visit to Bulgaria

After working for two years in virtual and hybrid settings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) resumed its on-site assessment visits on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, conducting a comprehensive visit to the Republic of Bulgaria from 4 to 9 April 2022.?

Indonesia becomes sixth Member State to brief the CTC on developments since July 2019 follow-up visit

On 17 February 2022, pursuant to Security Council resolutions 2395 (2017) and 2617 (2021), the Republic of Indonesia briefed the Counter-Terrorism Committee on its efforts to counter terrorism since the Committee*s follow-up assessment visit, conducted in July 2019.

Mr. Andhika Chrisnayudhanto, Deputy for International Cooperation of Indonesia*s National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), informed the Committee that Indonesia*s terrorism landscape had recently changed.?

Philippines becomes fifth Member State to brief the CTC on its implementation of CTC visit recommendations

During its briefing to the Counter-Terrorism Committee, delivered on 28 May 2021, Under-Secretary Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan, Executive Director of the Anti-Terrorism Council Program Management Center in the Office of the President of the Philippines (former Chief of the Philippine National Police), outlined a range of steps taken by the Philippines to implement the Committee*s visit recommendations pursuant to the requirements of the relevant Security Council resolutions, as well as several priority areas of technical assistance needs.
