On 11 June 2015 51³Ô¹Ï Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the appointment of Kelly T. Clements of the United States as Deputy High Commissioner in the Office of the 51³Ô¹Ï High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Ms. Clements will succeed T. Alexander Aleinikoff of the United States, to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his dedicated service and commitment to the work of UNHCR.
Ms. Clements has served as United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau for Population, Refugees, and Migration since March 2010. Â She previously was the Director of Policy and Resource Planning in the Bureau and also served as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in the United States Embassy in Beirut.
Ms. Clements holds a master’s degree in urban affairs and public policy, as well as a bachelor’s degree in international studies, both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the United States.
