An Open, Safe & Secure Digital Future for All

Intergovernmental Process led by the Co-facilitators Sweden and Zambia

On October 2022, the President of the UN General Assembly appointed the Permanent Representatives of Rwanda and of Sweden as Co-facilitators to lead the intergovernmental process on the Global Digital Compact. On 2 May 2023, the Co-facilitators shared the updated road map for the intergovernmental process.

Consultations with Member States and Stakeholders took place from January 2023 through June 2023, allowing for remote participation of Stakeholders. On 22 February 2023, the Co-facilitators shared the calendar for the thematic deep-dives (see letter here). Information for each meeting is being released below. Stakeholders interested in participating are asked to sign up via the respective registration link.

On 10 October 2023, the President of the General Assembly appointed the Permanent Representatives of Sweden and Zambia as Co-Facilitators to lead the intergovernmental process on the Global Digital Compact.

The Compact was adopted by world leader on 22 September 2024 at the Summit of the Future in New York. Read the press release and join the Compact.

Summit of the Future: September 2024

On 22 September 2024, world leaders adopted a Pact for the Future that includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations. This Pact is the culmination of an inclusive, years-long process to adapt international cooperation to the realities of today and the challenges of tomorrow. The Global Digital Compact, annexed to the Pact, is the first comprehensive global framework for digital cooperation and AI governance. Read the press release and join the Compact.
