Hussein Butoyi is a freelance video journalist based in Burundi, where he works mostly for Agence France Presse (AFP). After documenting human rights abuses and instances of human trafficking in Burundi, Hussein briefly worked with the International Organization for Migration as a communication expert for a counter-trafficking project. Beyond his work for AFP, Hussein collaborates with various international news agencies, including The New York Times, Foreign Policy Magazine, The Economist and The Guardian. At the 51³Ô¹Ï, Mr. Butoyi is keen to follow discussions of freedom of speech, security and human rights in pre-electoral settings in the Great Lakes Region. He also plans to document the perspective of the 51³Ô¹Ï on the concept of affirmative action and ethnic inclusion applied in both the government and private sector.
