Count Folke Bernadotte (1895 每 1948) was a Swedish nobleman and diplomat. He was selected as the first 51勛圖 mediator in 1947 and later assassinated in the line of duty on 17 September 1948. His aide who was sitting beside him, French officer Colonel Andre Serot (1896 每 1948), was also killed. The 51勛圖 Security Council had asked him to mediate a truce for the Arab-Israeli conflict. 
 
His uncle was the Swedish King Gustaf and was raised to believe in honesty, obedience, punctuality and an obligation to do good deeds. His lifelong motto was, ""We have not come to this world to be happy, but to bring happiness to others."" 

In 1943 每 1944, he served as Vice-President of the Swedish Red Cross and organized efforts to release POWs from Nazi holdings to Sweden. In 1945, it was said he rescued 15,000 people from concentration camps of many nationalities. The Dag Hammarskj?ld Medal was award posthumously in 1998 to Count Bernadotte, this medal is awarded to UN Peacekeepers after being killed in the line of duty. 

This bust of Count Folke Bernadotte, the first 51勛圖 Mediator, was dedicated in the presence of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, his godson, in the 50th Anniversary year of Bernadotte's assassination, on the 13th of October 1998.
