Title: Launch of #HelloGlobalGoals collaboration with Hello Kitty

Date: 24 September 2019

Venue: SDG Media Zone, UN Headquarters, New York

Event Summary:

At UN Headquarters, CCOI launched a strategic collaboration with Sanrio Co., Ltd. to promote the Sustainable Development Goals, featuring the beloved character Hello Kitty. As part of the #HelloGlobalGoals collaboration, a new video series will be released in English and Japanese on Hello Kitty’s official YouTube channel, highlighting six of the 17 Goals through Kitty’s conversations with senior UN leaders as well as her visits to UN projects around the world.

Appearing at the launch event “in person”, Hello Kitty participated in a live talk at the SDG Media Zone moderated by actress Kate Reinders, where she unveiled the first video of the #HelloGlobalGoals series – a conversation with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed. “To be invited to work with the UN on a global scale is a dream comes true,” Kitty told the audience.

“Hello Kitty is bringing her enormous fanbase to our global efforts to educate young people, in every part of our world, about the Sustainable Development Goals, and why they should be involved in achieving them,” said Melissa Fleming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications.

The launch event was promoted widely with the hashtag #HelloGlobalGoals across UN and Sanrio social media platforms.

CCOI's Role:

CCOI coordinated the collaboration between Sanrio and UN system entities. Through a number of briefings, CCOI connected Sanrio’s creative team with SDG experts from across the UN system and worked closely with the partners to develop and promote the #HelloGlobalGoals YouTube series. The collaboration is ongoing.
