Women’s Empowerment Principles Training Open to UN Suppliers
The Office of Supply Chain Management is pleased to announce that it has partnered with UN Women, a specialized UN Agency dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, to promote among the UN Secretariat suppliers
Advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in the broad context of supply chain operations not only contributes to reducing systemic discrimination, but it also broadens the economic base, increases suppliers’ diversity and enhances suppliers’ access to business networks, high-value market opportunities and sustainable revenue streams.
The Women’s Empowerment Principles are a set of Principles offering guidance to businesses on how to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community. Established by UN Global Compact and UN Women, the Women’s Empowerment Principles are informed by international labour and human rights standards and are grounded in the recognition that businesses have a stake in, and a responsibility for, gender equality and women’s empowerment. They help bring together all parts of an organization to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.
“The Office of Supply Chain Management is dedicated to promoting the principles of women empowerment throughout its supply chain by reducing barriers to women serving in the field, by increasing participation of women owned businesses in procurement efforts, by fostering gender parity, and by promoting the same within its contractors, among other activities….. This training is one of such initiative and is aimed at developing these principles within our contractors which are an integral part of our supply chain.” - Natalia Nedel, Chief Enabling and Outreach Service
