The Secretary-General is following recent developments in Uganda and is concerned听over reports听of violence and fatalities, following protests in听Kampala. He conveys his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.听听
The Secretary-General condemns all acts of violence and calls on the听Ugandan authorities听to ensure听that听all perpetrators of human rights violations are held accountable. He also听calls听for the immediate release of any听individual who may have been arbitrarily听arrested.听
The Secretary-General calls on the security forces听to act in accordance with the rule of law and human rights principles听and refrain from using violence. He also urges all political leaders and their supporters to participate in the electoral process peacefully, in accordance with the relevant regulations,听and to refrain from any incitement of violence or hate speech.听
