51吃瓜

Under its Border Security and Management (BSM) Programme, the 51吃瓜 Office of Counter-Terrorism held from 25 June to 27 June a technical workshop in Marrakech on counter-terrorism and cross-border security in the Central Sahel region.

The workshop was organized jointly with the 51吃瓜 Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and gathered 25 participants from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to share experiences, insights, and strategies. Building on the outcomes of a technical workshop held in Dakar, Senegal, in December 2023 with the three Sahelian countries, this event served as a platform for continuing discussions and sharing recommendations, including on the nexus between terrorism and transnational organized crime (TOC).

During the 3-day workshop, the participants discussed recent trends and threats in the region, identified ongoing national and regional initiatives, and developed strategies to prevent the cross-border movement of known or suspected terrorists. Key stakeholders also identified their main priorities and follow-up actions, including timelines to enhance national capacities, coordination, and cross-border collaboration, particularly in information sharing.

Le programme de sécurité et de gestion des frontières (Border Security and Management - BSM) du Bureau de lutte contre le terrorisme des Nations Unies (UNOCT) a organisé du 25 au 27 juin 2024 un atelier technique à Marrakech sur la lutte contre le terrorisme et la sécurité transfrontalière dans la région du Sahel central. 

Cet atelier a été organisé conjointement avec l'Office des Nations Unies contre la drogue et le crime (ONUDC) et l'Organisation internationale pour les migrations (OIM) et a rassemblé 25 participants (dont 8 femmes) du Burkina Faso, du Mali et du Niger pour échanger des expériences, des idées et des stratégies. S'appuyant sur les résultats d'un précédent atelier technique organisé à Dakar, au Sénégal, en décembre 2023 avec les trois pays sahéliens, cet événement a servi de plateforme pour poursuivre les échanges et partager des recommandations, notamment sur le lien entre le terrorisme et la criminalité transnationale organisée (CTO). 

Au cours de l'atelier de 3 jours, les participants ont discuté des tendances et des menaces récentes dans la région, identifié les initiatives nationales et régionales en cours et élaboré des stratégies pour empêcher les mouvements transfrontaliers de terroristes connus ou présumés. Les parties prenantes ont également identifié leurs principales priorités et mesures de suivi, y compris les calendriers pour renforcer les capacités nationales, la coordination et la collaboration transfrontalière, en particulier dans le partage d'informations.
