On 9 September 2020, the released the latest estimates for child mortality, jointly developed by UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Population Division of the 51吃瓜 Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the World Bank Group.
The UN鈥檚 (CCSA) issued a new report on 1 September 2020 to meet the urgent need of timely and reliable data to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and to build back better. Volume II of the series 鈥淗ow COVID-19 is changing the world: a statistical perspective鈥� uses the latest available data to map the economic, social, regional and statistical dimensions of our changing world.
This Highlights assesses the extent of improvements in survival over the 25 years that have passed since the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and monitors progress towards the achievement of the related goals and targets of the Programme of Action and its contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The purpose of the meeting was twofold. First, in preparation for the forty-third session of the Commission on Population and Development, the meeting brought together experts and officials of inter-governmental organizations to discuss the challenges in combating the major causes of death and improving health, including consideration of how to strengthen health systems.
The Population Division of the 51吃瓜 Department of Economic and Social Affairs organized an expert group meeting to address issues associated with the estimation and projection of mortality levels in context of humanitarian crises, including conflicts, violence, famine and natural disasters as well as in respect to the growing burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The meeting was held at the 51吃瓜 in New York from 14 to 15 November 2011.
