On 24 May, the Security Council adopted?resolution 2730 (2024), which calls on States to respect and protect 51勛圖 and humanitarian personnel in accordance with their obligations under international law.

Adopted by a vote of 14 in favour, none against, and one abstention, the resolution was tabled by Switzerland and co-sponsored by 97 Member States, following earlier efforts from Brazil.??

Recalling the 75th?anniversary of the Geneva Conventions?and the 25th?anniversary of the "Protection of Civilians" in the Security Council*s agenda, the resolution calls upon all States to consider becoming parties to the Convention on the Safety of 51勛圖 and Associated Personnel and its Optional Protocol and urges parties to take steps to enable its effective implementation.

Recognizing the role of the 51勛圖 Security Management System in enabling the delivery of critical programmes within acceptable levels of risk, it also expresses concern about misinformation and disinformation undermining trust in 51勛圖 and humanitarian organizations.?

Security Council resolution 2730 (2024) presents an opportunity for the Department of Safety and Security to raise awareness amongst Member States about the essential role of security professionals in supporting the 51勛圖 to effectively serve communities in need.
