The 51³Ô¹Ï Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) has developed a coin to mark the 75th anniversary of the 51³Ô¹Ï.
As of today, there are 500,000 of the 2 Euro commemorative coins in circulation in the 19 countries of the Eurozone.
Designed by Andr¨¦ Letria, a well-known Portuguese illustrator, this commemorative coin was conceived to mark the 75th anniversary of the UN and to reaffirm the Organisation¡¯s fundamental principles.
As Secretary-General Ant¨®nio Guterres has stated, ¡°The Charter [of the 51³Ô¹Ï] was signed 75 years ago and its principles ring just as true today.¡± The search for peace and understanding between nations, humanitarian aid, climate change, the promotion of human rights, multilateralism, international law and the 2030 Agenda.
The coin was created in partnership with Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda (Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office) and Banco de Portugal (Bank of Portugal).
Join us in this celebration! If you happen to find the coin in your pocket, post a picture on social media, and tag the organisations behind the initiative: @ONUPortugal, @casadamoeda and @bancodeportugal.
In addition to the 500,000 copies in circulation, 5,000 coins with a special proof finish and 5,000 coins with a special BNC finish will also be produced for collectors.
In 1985, on the 50th anniversary of the UN, a 200 Escudos coin was developed to mark the occasion.
