Excellencies,
Good morning!
I thank the moderator for giving me the floor. As we have embarked on the journey to implement the ABAS, one of the top priorities for UN system after the successful SIDS 4, allow me to present a few of UN efforts.
First, DESA and OHRLLS have established an inter-agency task force to deliver a monitoring and evaluation framework by next June, a framework which will enable the international community to target its assistance effectively.
Second, we have developed an implementation matrix which assigns leadership for ABAS commitments to UN entities, that will enhance accountability.
Third, DESA is working with the Development Coordination Office to ensure Country Teams are briefed on ABAS and their workplans can respond to its priorities.
Fourth, DESA will also continue to deliver for SIDS on governance, data and statistics, financing and partnerships, as highlighted in the ABAS.
Finally, we are looking ahead to the upcoming conferences in 2025 on Ocean, Financing and Social Development to further rally the action needed to deliver the ABAS. We will work with UN-system partners to ensure SIDS priorities are well reflected in these processes.
Excellencies, please be assured that DESA will be with you every step of the way towards resilient prosperity.
Thank you.
