17 May 2022.? Today the European Parliament's?Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety adopted the?report on the regulation establishing a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). CBAM is seen as a way of preventing "carbon leakage" - that is, the movement of carbon-emitting industries to other countries -?as?Europe transitions to a lower-carbon economy.?
5 November 2021. The European Commission published its proposal for a new Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) from 2024. The regulation needs to be endorsed by the Parliament and the council through the ordinary legislative procedure. More information . Some of the proposed changes may be relevant for LDCs, particularly graduating LDCs, such as proposed changes in the criteria for eligibility of GSP+.
